  • How do I add or remove a song from playing?

To add or remove songs, go to the Playlists tab on the left hand side of the screen, and then the My Playlists tab. Select the playlist you wish to edit and click the right-pointing arrow in the Actions column. On the next screen, click the  “Show All Songs” button. Find the song you wish to delete and click the red X under the Actions column.

You can add songs to your playlist by selecting the green “Add Songs from Library” button near the middle of the screen. Once in the new window, you can search for a song you would like to add. Once it’s found, you can fill in the circle to the left of the title, and then click the green “Add Selected Songs” button located on the bottom right of your screen. The song should then be added to your playlist.

  • How frequently should I play announcements?

Well, that depends! In an ideal world, you would want every customer to hear at least one message while in your location. If your customer spends an average of 5 minutes in your location, you would schedule an announcement to play between each song. If they spend an average of 15 minutes, you would schedule an announcement to play every 3 songs. Our Experience Managers can assist you with announcement scheduling.

  • How do I remove and edit something I’ve scheduled?
    1. Go to the Manage Players” tab.
    2. Select the device you would like to manage.
    3. Click the day on the calendar you would like to edit.
    4. Find the time you wish to remove or edit by scrolling through the “Recurring Scheduled” content in the box on the right hand side of the screen.
    5. After finding the item you want to remove, select the X on the ride hand side.
    6. This will only remove your scheduled selected for the same consecutive days. For example: If you delete a mix off of a Monday, this will only remove this scheduled mix for all following Mondays. If you originally scheduled your mix on multiple days, you will need to check the other days you scheduled to and remove the mix from those days as well.

  • Can I have some help creating content for messaging?

Absolutely! In fact, our voice artists are happy to lend their years of experience to your messages by creating the content for you. When you’re ready for a new message, all you need to do is submit a message request with a few topical bullet points, instructions, or important information, and they’ll do the rest.

Prefer to write the content yourself? Not a problem! Follow these best practices to ensure an effective message:

    • Remember, people don’t listen or hear the way you write. The spoken word is completely different than the written word.
    • The written copy needs to be conversational. A stiff, correctly-written paragraph is hard for the ears to follow. The messages you write should flow conversationally.
    • Formal language and grammar don’t count. You would correctly write, “Sir, we will see you there.” Conversationally, you’d say, “Hey man, we’ll see ya there.”
    • One thought per break; this is an old radio rule. Try to keep each message to one topic. Once you start a laundry list of topics in the same announcement, the ear doesn’t hear or remember any of them, let alone the most important one.
    • Keep details to a minimum, and encourage the listener to ask for more details or go to a resource, like the website or Facebook page, for more info.
    • Paint a mental picture.
    • The above two points may seem to contradict each other, but trust us, they don’t. You might think you need many details to paint a mental picture, but more often than not, details bog down that picture. For example, compare these two messages:
      • “Join us this Sunday for Easter Brunch and the Easter Egg Hunt. The Brunch starts at 10 am and runs until 2 pm with seatings every 30 minutes. And we’ll have 2 Easter Egg Hunts for you to choose from, the first one at 11 am and the next one at 1:30 pm. Make your reservations today, for the Easter Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt!”
      • “This Easter Sunday you’re invited to the best Easter Celebration ever. Make your reservations now, and enjoy the Easter Brunch and the Easter Egg Hunt, from 10 to 2. Ham, omelets, desserts, chocolate eggs, and an Egg Hunt that would make any bunny smile. Ask for more info, and we’ll see ya Sunday, for the Easter Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt!”

The second message paints a mental picture by being more conversational and using less minutia
    and fewer details.

    • Write it. Then read it. Aloud. Once you write a few sentences and think you have conveyed your point, read it aloud. You will “hear” it differently, and will be able to revise it to make it shorter, sharper, or more conversational.
    • Less is more. No one will remember the laundry list of details. The listener is more likely to act or respond when they “get it,” and they are more likely to “miss it” if they are hearing too much.
    • Have an intro or buffer to get the listener’s attention. No one is listening to your message the way you want them to listen. People are in their own world, with their own problems and distractions. There may be kids crying, a spouse coughing, neighbors talking, etc. If you start a message with, “save 50% off all merchandise,” it won’t be heard. Instead, start with something that is pleasing and not totally useless, but not the main point. For instance, you might start with, “right now at your friendly neighborhood Widget dealer, you can save 50% off all merchandise…” This intro, or buffer, gives the ear a chance to realize that the song is over, and an important message needs to be heard.
    • Say it twice to drive it home. The meat and potatoes of your message needs to be hammered two times. Continuing off the above example, the message could be, “right now at your friendly neighborhood Widget dealer, you can save 50% off all merchandise. I’m not kidding, you can really save 50% off all merchandise. But hurry because this deal is over at the end of the month.”

It would be difficult to apply ALL of these practices to the SAME message, so approach each one on a case-by-case basis. Good luck, and remember, we’re here to help.
